The Kubota’s rear axle is hard mounted to the chassis while its front axle is fixed to a pivot on the chassis centreline. T here’s no springs or damping anywhere apart from the tires. This leads to some VERY disconcerting behaviour when you’re on any sort of slope with a load in the bucket. As soon as the CoG moves beyond the line between downhill rear contact patch and centre of front axle - which doesn’t take much considering how far the bucket is offset from that line - the front axle pivots to full travel and the whole vehicle lurches onto three wheels. Scared the shit out of me the first time it did it: thought I was rolling it for sure.

Need weight on that 3PH

Yes, I’ve been thinking about getting a weight box. I use the grader blade - sometimes with a big rock strapped under its boom for extra mass - when I really need a counterweight, but it’s long enough to affect manoevrability so I don’t normally fit it.

If you’re moving material you should have rear ballast. Get a box scraper. I keep my backhoe on or box at all times other than mowing.

That’s a sweet lil tractor. I’m saving some $ to pay cash for one that size. I have an old junker that takes more maintenance than work performed.

I have a dozer that’s in that category: came free with the house bec au se moving it would have cost the PO more than it was worth , and it costs me more in repairs to perform any given job than it would have t o pay someone to come in and do the job for me.
Decided not to go that route with the tractor - I use that way more often than anything tracked, and the point of it is to help with projects, not be one. I’ve been really happy with the Kubota. Its capacity’s pretty low, but a lot of my property is tight so I need the maneuverability of a subcompact , and it’s not the end of the universe to make two trips where a larger machine would have done it in one.

It looks (and feels) a lot scarier than it is - once you sit down and work out the angles, it’s a long way f ro m the tipover point (unless you have the bucket really high, in which case you might move the C oG far enough sideways to get you in trouble).
Darn disconcerting though. I al most wonder if part of the design fu nc tion is to put the fear of God into the driver - tipping tractors over is a pretty traditional way to die on farms.

Interesting theory. Could be something to it.
